We were fully loaded and set off at 04:00 on Saturday 27 July on a 3200km journey through Namibia to Zambia. The scenery of the changing landscape, sun rises, and sunsets were part of the adventure. Running repairs too are part of the adventure. 🙂
We asked the church how best we could serve them, and they had planned for us to help them build their church. So the hard work started; map out layout, collect teak poles—many, plant poles, ensure they are perfectly lined up, trim top off poles, set in place the ring beam. Working alongside church members with them in charge, teaching us and us teaching them, and talking about the Lord in all we do, being excellent in the work to honour Him, sharing struggles and testimonies was living the body of Christ.
The ladies had fellowship with the church ladies and spent time with the children with many activities and games that many kids and even adults got involved with. Something very special happens when we sit and chat, share the word of God in conversation, share the life of women and children. This is the Gospel lived out as it makes real the body of Christ, ministering to each other and sharing the one thing that binds us together – The Lord Jesus.
This is church. Blessed are the poor in spirit, for they will inherit the Kingdom of God. The wonder of these saints is their strong faith in the Lord. Everything should tell them God is not real as life is more than very hard. Yet the joy of life, relationship, serving others, care and mercy – what a testimony to the work of the Holy Spirit in the lives of people. They are rich indeed.
We learned again that to serve is to love, to love is to put the other person first, and serve them on their terms and not ours, then they experience love, a mark of being a disciple of Jesus.
