The second half of winter tends to be worse than the first half. We were not ready!! We were enjoying decent weather and warmish days and then winter said “howzit”. It came with huge rain and flooding. The fynbos has not grown back since the fire in January, and so water and topsoil came rushing down, filling all the channels, and flooding properties. We were fortunately here and were able, in the pouring rain, to divert water, cut channels, and move water along. Water was about to spill over into our front door, but the boys and I were able to save the day.
Roads in the village washed away, many houses flooded, district taken huge hits again, and Clarence Drive closed again. But, today, the sun shines after 10 days of storm. We sparked in the pouring rain to divert the water, fill 40 bags with sand to keep the water from the foundations and into the house. Stream Rd washed away again, causing damage and flooding all the way to the sea. Water rushing down the mountain cut a deep channel into our property.
We were sad that we had to cancel our mission that was meant to be from June to end July. But imagine if we had not been here? The house would have been flooded and we would only have discovered it when we returned weeks later. It is a challenging thing to face ‘failure’, not understanding and asking many questions, to gratitude. Does God work this way? Ministry cancelled so that the home is not flooded? Confusion, doubt, disillusionment, pleading for answers, so that the home is secured, and we do not suffer loss? As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.
The guys hard at work as we prepare for our Zambia Mission. Lord willing, we depart 27 July and arrive back 12 August. There is much excitement with the boys. We are a team of 6. 3 nights up and 4 nights back. We are being hosted by friends at Mutemwa Lodge in Zambia.
He is faithful. He is Sovereign. He is Emmanuel.
